Support systems for graduate students

Graduate school

Subsidies for graduate students to present at academic conferences, etc.

In order to encourage graduate students' activities in academic societies, promote academic research, and reduce their financial burden, we provide a "Subsidy for Academic Presentations, etc." to each graduate student once a year when they present their research or exhibit their work at national conferences or exhibitions held by academic research organizations affiliated with the Science Council of Japan. The "Subsidy for Academic Presentations, etc." covers the actual cost of transportation and accommodation (up to a maximum of 50,000 yen) and participation fees (domestic academic conferences, etc.: up to a maximum of 10,000 yen, international academic conferences, etc.: up to a maximum of 60,000 yen).

In conjunction with the introduction of the "Deferred Tuition Payment System" in the Master's Program at the Graduate School, those who wish to use this system are requested to read the following information and complete the necessary procedures.

1. Overview of the system

What is the deferred tuition payment system?
This is a system in which the government pays tuition fees while enrolled, and the student repays the amount according to their income after completing graduate school. In addition, students can receive a monthly living expenses scholarship of 10,000 to 40,000 yen. (Living expenses scholarships alone cannot be provided.)

2. Target Audience

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

1) Those who meet the same household income criteria and academic achievement standards as those for the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Type 1 Scholarship for Master's students.

② Those who have applied through their current school based on their own wishes.

③ Those who have no reason to be unable to receive a Type 1 scholarship, such as being overdue in repaying a scholarship they have received in the past.

3. University Response

Upon submitting the necessary documents, payment of the tuition fee, which is one of the graduate school admission fees, will be deferred.
However, after enrollment, JASSO will review the application process and decide whether or not the student will be accepted.

4.How to apply

If you wish to apply, please submit the following documents along with the spring entrance application form to the Graduate School Office (1st floor, Building 1).

Hiring Teaching Assistants

In order to provide educational training opportunities for graduate students, we hire Teaching Assistants (TAs) who will work under full-time faculty members as educational assistants in experiments and practical training for specialized undergraduate subjects, and provide guidance and advice to undergraduate students. The TAs will be assigned up to five times a week (100 minutes each time) for a period of one year.

Actively accepting working students

1. Day and night classes

In order to meet the societal demand for recurrent education for working adults, our graduate school has introduced special educational policies (day and evening course offerings) as stipulated in Article 14 of the Graduate School Establishment Standards in all graduate schools, establishing a flexible educational environment and research system and actively accepting working adults.

2. Long-term study and early completion

All graduate schools at our university have systems for "long-term study" and "early completion," making it possible for students to complete graduate school in accordance with their own research plans and life plans.

Long-term course enrollment system

This is a system that allows students to plan and complete their studies beyond the standard period of study due to personal circumstances, such as having a job. This allows students to complete their master's degree in 3 or 4 years (standard period of study is 2 years) and their doctoral degree in 4 to 6 years (standard period of study is 3 years). The annual tuition fee for long-term students is the amount paid for the standard period of study divided by the period of long-term study, resulting in a reduction in the annual tuition fee.

Early completion system

If a student is recognized as having made particularly outstanding achievements in their graduate school, they may be able to complete their studies in less than the standard period of study (one year or more).

Papers and collections of works

Each graduate school publishes a collection of papers and works every year that includes the master's theses, doctoral theses, other academic papers, academic research reports, results of collaborative research, graduation projects, etc. of current and former graduate students, and these research results are widely publicized both inside and outside the university.
