Research Area Overview

We provide education and research on information technology that supports the development of a digital society and assists and strengthens human capabilities, as well as intelligent information processing and media processing that make the boundary between humans and computers more comfortable, from the perspective of effective data utilization and artificial intelligence.

Research Topics

Research on safe driving education using edge AI devices in real vehicles

In recent years, research into autonomous driving has progressed, but accidents have also occurred. Even if fully autonomous driving is realized, it will take a considerable amount of time to replace all current vehicles, so safe driving education will remain important.
In this research, we are developing a system that uses edge AI devices to quantitatively evaluate the driving of drivers. The most common types of accidents are rear-end collisions and head-on collisions. By using edge AI to detect vehicles ahead and stop signs, we can evaluate the distance between vehicles and driving behavior at stop signs. The experimental vehicle is compatible with IoT, and safety management can be done on a web page.
