What is Department of Sport Science and Health?

Sports have the power to move not only our bodies, but also society and the future.

Department of Sport Science and Health

The value of sports is not just about records. The "body" and "mind" are the two wheels of healthy human activity. Sports also play a major role in contributing to the community and moving the world, including in business. Our department develops talents who can excel in each field, focusing on the keywords of "athletes" who improve their own abilities, "teachers" who develop life skills through health and physical education, "sports trainers" who scientifically contribute to improving competitive ability and promoting health, and "sports business" who increase the social and economic value of sports. We recommend this course to anyone who sees the potential in the appeal of sports.

Admission Policy

People who are interested in the health of the human body and mind, and who are interested in improving their own health and athletic ability as well as supporting many people.

01 Practical learning at one of the leading sports facilities in Western Japan

Okusu Arena 2020, the largest gymnasium in western Japan, has a well-equipped sports environment, including a strength and conditioning zone equipped with various training equipment, allowing you to learn in a practical manner.

Our faculty members are researchers in a variety of academic fields, including sports education, coaching, and sports psychology. With cutting-edge facilities and equipment, and a wide range of academic fields, we aim to nurture athletes and support staff who can compete on the world stage.

03 Learning sports with local people

The "Sankyu Sports" athletic meet for local residents will be held at the "Okusu Arena 2020." There will be much to learn from the perspectives of not only "playing" and "watching" sports, but also "supporting" and "creating" sports.

A motivational support program!

Physical education teachers who support the development of elementary, middle, and high school students
Training Program

This program trains teachers who can develop the mental and physical health and sports literacy of children and students of a wide range of ages, from elementary school to high school. We aim to train students with practical teaching skills to obtain a first-class elementary school teaching license in addition to a first-class health and physical education teaching license for junior high school and high school.

  • Implementation of teacher recruitment exam preparation courses
  • Dedicated facilities will be prepared for use by eligible students, and materials such as employment examination question books and study materials will be provided.

Four-year learning process

Building the foundations of learning in the first year

Students will study basic subjects in sports science and health science, and enter a world of future-oriented learning from their first year.

Second year course selection and basic study of specialized fields

Students will be able to experience and choose fields that correspond to their future career paths, and this will increase their motivation for active learning and specialized study.

Third year: Acquisition of expertise

Students will learn specialized fields through seminars and exercises. They will also have practical training in snow sports and golf.

Year 4: Deepening your expertise and preparing for the workforce

Students will acquire the skills to contribute to society through teaching professions and training as a health and exercise instructor, and will also work on their graduation research.

    Learn the science behind the human body and exercise, and develop the skills to produce health and sports.

    This course is aimed at students who aim to find employment in health and sports businesses, medical institutions, the fitness industry, local governments, etc. We develop talent who can analyze sports from a management perspective, manage in the industry, and contribute to the creation of rich communities through sports.

    This course is aimed at students who aim to become sports instructors in the training field, obtain teaching licenses for health and physical education, or become top athletes in special sports. By learning about scientific training and mental training, we will develop people who can improve sports performance, regardless of whether they are professional or amateur.

Sports psychology explores the psychological aspects of athletes. It covers topics essential to improving sports performance, such as improving motivation, stress management, and promoting teamwork. In mental training theory, students learn specific methods for strengthening their mentality, such as goal setting, positive thinking, and image training, and acquire the techniques to apply them to daily training and competitions. Through this class, which is useful not only for athletes but also for coaches and instructors, students can acquire techniques for not only improving their sports performance, but also achieving mental fulfillment and health.

Introduction to Martial Arts, Kendo | Associate Professor Daisuke Akiyama

In the Kendo and Introduction to Martial Arts classes, students will learn about the appeal and excitement of Japan's unique martial arts through a deep understanding and practice of the arts. Kendo emphasizes mental concentration, correct posture, and mastery of technique, and offers an opportunity to reexamine oneself through a single sword. In the Introduction to Martial Arts class, students will explore the fundamental principles and spirit of various martial arts, including Kendo, Judo, Karate, and Aikido, focusing on the history, philosophy, and cultural background of martial arts. Through these classes, students will go beyond mere mastery of technique and acquire a spirit of self-discipline, respect, and introspection, and will be able to understand the deep cultural significance and universality of Japanese martial arts.

In the seminar, we work with local sports companies to conduct research that contributes to collaboration and revitalization of the local community. Through practical projects, students will gain in-depth knowledge of sports event planning and management, marketing, business strategy, and more. This seminar is an ideal setting for students who are aiming for a career in the sports industry, providing experience that will have a real impact on the local community.
