Department of Living Environment Design

The "things" we use in our daily lives and the "places" we spend our time in are all subjects of "living environment design." A rich life is not just about convenience. For example, there is a strong demand nowadays to create a sustainable living environment. We train designers who can solve such problems, design better lifestyles, and contribute to society.

01 Practical class programs in collaboration with other faculties

Taking advantage of the fact that we have Faculty of Art and Design as a comprehensive university, we are implementing a program that utilizes cutting-edge technology to create the society of the future through cross-disciplinary classes with other faculties.

The museum has unparalleled facilities and equipment, including workshops for wood, metal, ceramics, fabric, glass, and plastic, a clay model room, and a Kakiemon-style kiln.

We offer a wide range of project-based education programs, including product development for furniture, shoes, Hakata-ori textiles, and displays at commercial facilities, in which students learn practical problem-solving processes in collaboration with companies and local communities.

Product Design
Practical Program

This program, which works with the automotive, furniture, agricultural machinery, packaging, advertising, and shoe industries, combines face-to-face and remote learning in the form of design workshops and seminars, where participants learn design skills, design thinking, and methods directly from on-site professionals in each field. As a next step, program participants can participate in educational internships held by companies to experience and learn more specialized manufacturing, which can then be used to find employment in the future.

Four-year learning process

First year: Learn the basics of art and understand your field of expertise

Students will acquire the basic skills necessary for design and also gain an understanding of specialized fields through introductory courses.

Second year: Learn the basics of your field

Through practical training classes, students will consolidate the basic knowledge of their specialized fields learned from both theoretical and technical standpoints.

Third-year students will apply their knowledge to practical applications

Using the foundational skills you have acquired in your field, you will tackle specific problems in depth and apply them.

Fourth year: Complete specialized studies and work towards the future

Each student will work on graduation research in their field of expertise, as well as decide on their future path and begin activities such as job hunting.

  • Production Design Major

    Exploring the future of lifestyles and manufacturing, utilizing everything from handcraft to cutting-edge technology

    With the concept of "creation" as the foundation, students will learn how to plan and design "things" and aim to become product designers, craft designers, and craft artists who can enrich people's lives. Students will learn about a variety of designs, from miscellaneous goods, tableware, and accessories to furniture, home appliances, automobiles, and robots.

    A learning opportunity for fashion, interior design, architecture, and urban development

    You can learn a wide range of spatial design, including fashion, furniture and interior design, architecture, stage art and displays, etc. By learning the basic knowledge of design and acquiring methods of expression, you can aim to become a designer in various fields.

Students aim to become product designers who can enrich people's lives by learning about planning ideas, techniques, and material properties to provide products that will be necessary for the society and daily life of the future. Students can also work on the development of a variety of products, including automobiles, furniture, and miscellaneous goods.

Sharpen your creative skills through research and production

Students will design wooden furniture and learn about materials, processing, scale, and functionality by creating models and full-scale models. They will also have the opportunity to exhibit their designs and show them to the public.
