The 42nd All Japan Wushu Tai Chi Championships, sponsored by the Japan Wushu Tai Chi Federation, was held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium from July 11th (Friday) to July 13th (Sunday). At the tournament, the University of Tsukuba's Chinese Wushu Club won the national championship in the team competition/practice division* for the second time since the club was founded.
The winning pair was Suhara Takami (Uwajima Minami High School), a fourth-year student in the Department of Department of Electrical Engineering Faculty of Science and Engineering, Faculty of International Studies of Culture Department of Japanese Culture Faculty of International Studies. The pair demonstrated an advanced weapon-pairing technique called "double dagger vs. spear." Their well-coordinated demonstration and outstanding technical skills were highly praised, earning them first place.
Suhara said, "I am most happy that we were able to win in my final year as a university student. On the day of the competition, we were able to perform with more coordination than ever before." Maeda expressed his gratitude, saying, "I was able to win thanks to the guidance of my coach. I'm glad I was able to repay him."
In addition, the pair consisting of Kawajiri Takuya (Kamachi Technical High School), a second-year student in the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering Department of Civil and Urban Design Engineering Engineering, Faculty of Architecture and Urban Engineering, and Adachi Shinta (Higashi Fukuoka High School), a second-year student in the Department Department of Childhood Education, Faculty of Human Sciences, performed well in a highly difficult demonstration known as "Sansetsukon Taikon" (three-section stick vs. stick), and came in sixth place nationally.
The award plaque commemorating the victory in the tournament is on display in the showcase onthe first floor of The Heritage Corner inside Okusu Arena 2020.

* "Tairen" is a competition in which two or three people perform a fighting style using bare hands and weapons, with the demonstration lasting between 50 seconds and two minutes.
