In April 2024, we opened the Inclusion Support Office. This office is a consultation desk for students who are having trouble taking classes due to disabilities, illnesses, etc. If you would like support during classes, please contact us. Specialized staff will respond to your inquiries.

*If you are having difficulty attending classes due to a disability or other reason, you can register as a "student who requires special consideration." * When registering, you will need to provide a medical certificate or other document.
*What is the "Students Requiring Special Consideration" system?
A system in which students who experience significant ongoing limitations in their daily or social lives due to disabilities or social barriers can receive reasonable accommodation, depending on the condition and level of their disability, so that they can study under equal conditions as students without disabilities.
1. philosophy
Kyushu Sangyo University (hereinafter referred to as "the University") strives to support students with disabilities as a university where students can learn together, respecting each other's personality and individuality, regardless of whether they have a disability, in accordance with the Act on Promotion of Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Disability Discrimination Elimination Act) (revised and enforced in April 2024).
The students with disabilities who are eligible for support from our university are "students who are subject to significant ongoing restrictions in their daily or social lives due to disabilities and social barriers."
2. Basic Policy
In accordance with the basic policy, we provide support to students with disabilities through reasonable accommodation.
- (1) When conducting entrance examinations, special measures will be taken to the extent possible according to the condition and degree of the disability of an individual, based on the individual's prior application.
- (2) After admission, reasonable accommodation will be made depending on the condition and level of the disability so that the student can study under equal conditions as students without disabilities.
- (3) To the extent possible, we will provide guidance and support regarding career paths after graduation, based on the condition and level of the disability.
- (4) We will strive to improve the campus environment so that students can lead safe and smooth student lives.
- (5) We will strive to promote understanding and raise awareness among students, faculty and staff.
- (6) We will disclose information regarding this basic policy, etc.
* Concept of reasonable accommodation
Article 2 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
Reasonable accommodation means necessary and appropriate modifications and adjustments, which are needed in a particular case and do not impose a disproportionate or undue burden, to ensure that persons with disabilities can enjoy or exercise all human rights and fundamental freedoms on an equal basis with others.
Article 8, paragraph 2 of the Act on the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities
When a person with a disability expresses an intention to the effect that he or she currently needs to remove social barriers in carrying out the business, and the burden of implementing such measures is not excessive, the business must make necessary and reasonable consideration in implementing such measures according to the gender, age and state of disability of the person with a disability, so as not to infringe on the rights and interests of the person with a disability.
3. Support system
- (1) A support desk for students with disabilities will be set up in the Student Affairs Division (Inclusion Support Office), and support will be provided in cooperation with various organizations within the university.
- (2) A Committee on Support for Students with Disabilities (hereinafter referred to as the "Committee") has been established as a university-wide organization to formulate policies for supporting students with disabilities and certify students eligible for support.
4. Support details etc.
- (1) Basic principles
- ① The scope of support for students with disabilities is limited to academic activities. Activities not directly related to education and considerations regarding daily life are not covered.
- ② In principle, academic support will be provided based on the student’s request.
When deciding on accommodations, staff from the Inclusion Support Office will meet with the individual and make every effort to ensure that the individual is as satisfied as possible. - ③ The students who are recognized by the committee as needing special consideration will have their names notified to course instructors as students who will receive academic support.
- ④ We will respect the student's own wishes regarding the extent to which their status as a student requiring special consideration will be shared with students working as teaching assistants (TAs) or student assistants (SAs) who provide educational support.
