"Stanford Summer Session" study abroad report session held

On Tuesday, October 28th, a study abroad report session was held for Mizuki Kanehara (4th year, Department of Information Science of Science Faculty of Science and Engineering /Chikushi Jogakuen High School), who was sent from our university to the Stanford Summer International Honors Program, after she completed the program and returned to Japan.
In addition to a presentation by Kanehara, the report session also included a talk session between Kanehara and Professor Miura Kaori Faculty of International Studies of Culture Department of International Studies of Culture.

In addition to discussing the course content, Kanehara also talked about how she took daily online English lessons in preparation for the program. She mentioned that despite struggling with two subjects over the course of about two months, "Genocide and Humanitarian Intervention" and "United Nations Peacekeeping Operations," she and her friends worked positively toward the program. Participating students asked a series of questions, including, "What sparked your interest in English?" and "What did you do for fun outside of class?" In the following talk session, Professor Miura offered words of encouragement, saying, "The program must have been challenging, with so many daily assignments, but you persevered to the end despite experiencing such an environment. I encourage any students who are interested to give it a try."

Kanehara said, "The students I met at Stanford University were of all nationalities and ages, but they were all people with a strong sense of purpose. Studying with them allowed me to learn about diverse values and was a positive influence on me. In the future, I would like to join the JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers and work towards going on to graduate school overseas."
