The Department of Smart Communication Engineering, newly established in the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Science and Engineering this academic year, provides practical learning from the first year to cultivate individuals who can connect people, things, and the world digitally, are conscious of their connection to society, and can integrate and utilize knowledge and technology from related fields, all based on a foundation of engineering knowledge.
1年次対象科目「プロジェクト基礎」では、問題解決型学習(PBL)を通して、リーダーシップやコミュニケーション、ファシリテーション、モチベーション、スケジュールプランニングなどの、プロジェクト遂行に必要な基礎を身につけることを目的としています。授業は複数の教員による演習型で実施され、基礎を学びながら実践的に活用する力を養います。
On Wednesday, June 10th, Professor Nobuhiro Ushimi 's class theme was "Thinking about a New Type of XX: An Interactive Design Workshop Through Creativity and Combination." Students were divided into groups and chose a theme from options such as "clothing," "hospitals," and "schools." They then brainstormed systems and services that would create new value by combining items from different genres. In the subsequent presentations, they presented ideas that visualized their concepts. They shared with the whole class what kind of experiences would be created and how they could benefit society.

Furthermore, on Wednesday, June 17th, a group workshop was held in Professor Kazuhiro Tsuruta 's class to learn how to utilize AI. In the first half, under the common theme of "How to make university life more enjoyable," each group asked the AI for suggestions, and then evaluated and presented the results. Through this process, students experienced firsthand the characteristics of AI, which tends to homogenize information, and deepened their understanding of the respective roles of AI and humans. Professor Tsuruta also touched upon the fact that even when looking at the same thing, people see it differently depending on their "sensibilities," and encouraged students to gain various experiences during their university life in order to hone those "sensibilities."
In the second half, students tackled more practical applications of AI. Based on the theme of "The Future of XX," they conceived future products and services, generating ideas, gathering information, refining their plans, and preparing presentations while devising effective prompts. Through practical experience, the students learned about the collaborative process with AI, which will become indispensable in future life.

In this department, students will not only learn to design systems and services, but also cultivate the creativity to apply them in real-world situations and the ability to solve problems as a team. In the future, we will further develop students' learning through practical projects.
