On Saturday, August 30th, two teams from the Faculty of Science Faculty of Science and EngineeringRobot Workshop (team names: "NotRandom" and "BRAND-NEW DAY") participated in the "Kyushu Summer Robocon 2025 Tournament" held at Kyushu University's Ito Campus, with "NotRandom" taking first place out of 15 teams.
This event is a Robocon competition for small robots from universities in Kyushu. This year's theme is "Kyushu Summer Battle." Two robots (Lord Robot and Ally Robot) pass six balls and move them to a designated location called a "castle." Participants create their own unique robots based on the theme presented. SettingThinking about planning and programming, The teams competed for speed and stability.
[Team name: NotRandom]
Key points of production: The robot body is fixed, and stable operation is achieved by moving only the arms.
[Team name: BRAND-NEW DAY]
Key points of production: A mechanism that pushes the frame forward using asimple air cylinder.
Nakamura Tenyu (Fukuoka Technical High School), a second-year student Faculty of Science and Engineering Department of Mechanical Engineering and leader of the first-place winning team "NotRandom," reflected on the competition, saying, "Reflecting on what we learned from last year's competition, we designed our robot to emphasize not only speed but also stability. I think the reason we were able to take first place is because when we faced obstacles, the team members were able to discuss and come up with solutions, and we were able to divide up the responsibilities well. We will take advantage of Kyushu Sangyo University 's strength, the "speed" of our robots, and continue to work hard with the goal of competing in the main NHK Robocon competition from next year onwards."
Kazuhiro Tanaka (Fukuoka Institute of Technology Joto High School), a second-year student in the same department and leader of "BRAND-NEW DAY," which unfortunately did not win a prize, said, "We changed the mechanism for catching the ball at the last minute, so we didn't have time to practice and we couldn't achieve good results. However, at the reception after the competition, we were able to absorb the mechanisms and ideas of other universities and learned a lot, so I would like to use this in my future activities. I am disappointed with the result, but the time we spent engrossed in building the robot together is irreplaceable and I am full of gratitude."
