[JR Kyushu Joint Research Project] Case study towards proposing "Kyushu Sangyo University Area Station"!

The Community Contribution Practice Studio (Isami Yasuhiko Laboratory)Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering Department of Housing and Interior, has been working on a joint research project with Kyushu Railway Company (JR Kyushu) titled "Research and Education on the Planning and Design of Station Buildings and Areas" since 2023. This year, nine third- and fourth-year students will be taking on the challenge of proposing a "Kyushu Sangyo University Area Station" as part of their graduation research, which will comprehensively design the station, university, area, etc.

On Wednesday, June 18th, a special lecture was given by Toru Ide of the Facilities Section of the Construction Works Department of the company. Using the Mojiko Area Complex Public Facility Development Project as an example, he explained the planning and design of station buildings and the area, and the students listened intently, taking notes.

In addition, on Wednesday, June 25th, the group visited Orio Station accompanied by Mr. Ito. They received an explanation about the Orio District Comprehensive Development Project and toured the new station building, which was completed as part of the project in 2021.

Akari Akiyama (Fukuoka Chuo High School), a fourth-year student at the studio, said, "Until now, I have tended to focus on the physical elements of design, but after listening to the lecture, I realized that the history of the area and the voices of the residents are also important elements in design. I would like to do thorough preliminary research on the relationship between the building and the area, and then get to work on planning and designing."

The students, who have deepened their learning through lectures and site visits, are now working towards their final presentation to the company. They are also planning to present the progress of their research at KSU VISION DAY 2025, which will be held on Friday, October 31st and Saturday, November 1st. Please come and take a look.
