Kyushu Sangyo University hold environmental study session at elementary school! Learn about safe river play on the Muromi River

Associate Professor Hiroki Iyooka ofFaculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering Department of Civil and Urban Design Engineering and his students held an environmental study session on Thursday, July 10th at Muromi River for 78 fourth graders from Fukuoka City Shikata Elementary School.

The study session, which was conducted in collaboration with the local environmental group "Muro River Regeneration Discussion Group (Chairman: Yamazaki Tadayoshi)," began with students from our university giving an easy-to-understand lecture in the form of a quiz on the correct way to wear life jackets to protect children's lives, as well as precautions to take when playing in the river, in line with the increase in water accidents that occur during this time of year.

After the lecture, the children were divided into two groups: one group observed the riverbed and the locally managed biotope* while listening to explanations about plants, and the other group put on life jackets and searched for living creatures in the river.

A teacher at the elementary school expressed his gratitude, saying, "Thank you very much for all your consideration and preparation. Some children play in the river at this time of year, so we appreciate you teaching them the correct way to play. We would like to take this opportunity to continue our environmental activities."

Associate Professor Iyooka is registered on Fukuoka City's "Environmental Education and Learning Talent List," and this study session is being held using the "Exciting Environmental Outreach Lessons" system.
