On Monday, February 2nd and Tuesday, February 3rd, our university's Landscape Research Center hosted a research group from Chia-Nan University of Pharmacology (Taiwan) as part of a joint research project on the theme of "watersheds."

An exchange of views was held at our university on Monday, the 2nd. First, Center Director Sanpei Yamashita (Professor, Department of Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering Department of Civil and Urban Design Engineering) touched on the history of the Center's establishment in 2003 as Japan's first comprehensive research institute for landscape studies, and introduced its main research projects, such as "Ceramics and Folk Craft Villages and Cultural Landscapes," "Disasters and Landscapes," and "Green Infrastructure and Renewable Energy."

Afterwards, President Wu of the university explained the university's project, which aims to revitalize the region and protect nature along the Erren River, which flows along the border between Kaohsiung and Tainan in Taiwan. There was an active exchange of opinions on how the university could collaborate with the university to further develop this project.

On Tuesday the 3rd, the group conducted fieldwork in the Yanagawa area with five faculty members from our university, observing Japanese examples of river-based landscape formation, urban development, and the preservation of traditional crafts in the area.

During this visit, President Wu stated, "Through international exchange with Kyushu Sangyo University Landscape Research Center, we hope to deepen our mutual understanding of research and give back to the local community the knowledge gained from our collaboration," expressing his hopes for further collaboration in the future. Director Yamashita commented, "In addition to greening engineering and hydraulic engineering, our center has researchers who are well versed in art and regional development. We would like to continue discussions to see what specific initiatives are feasible in the future."
