Flowers over fruit
At the 42nd FUKUI Thumbhole Art Exhibition, Nao Hirata, a first-year master's student in the Graduate Graduate School of Fine Arts won the Fukui Shimbun Award for her work "Flowers Over Fruit." Additionally, Haruka Okumura, a third-year student in the Department Department of Fine Arts and Media Sciences Faculty of Art and Design had her work "Goodnight" selected for exhibition.
Hirata, who received the Fukui Shimbun Award, said, "I am deeply honored to receive this award. This work was inspired by the phrase 'dumplings over flowers.' It means prioritizing actual profit and practicality (dumplings) over outward beauty (flowers), but as an artist, I tend to prioritize artistic merit over practicality. I tried to express this difference. I feel that I still have many shortcomings when it comes to creating artwork. In order to continue working as an artist, I will strive to confront these challenges and continue to paint what I want to paint."
Additionally, from March 20th (Fri, holiday) to April 5th (Sun), the "42nd FUKUI Thumbhole Art Exhibition," where you can view the winning and selected works from this exhibition, will be held at the Kanazu Creative Forest Museum (Awara City, Fukui Prefecture).
Please feel free to stop by if you're in the area.

Good night
