"Let's reassess your scale together" Fukuoka Prefecture domestic violence prevention awareness poster designed by Kyushu Sangyo University

Students from Takehiko Shibamura's laboratoryin the Department Department of Visual Design Faculty of Art and Design, have designed a poster to raise awareness of domestic violence prevention in Fukuoka Prefecture.

The design uses the letter "D" from a protractor and the letter "V" from a ruler to represent the gap in perception that often occurs between victims and perpetrators, where the victim feels that "I didn't mean it that way." The copy reads, "Let's re-measure your scale together." Upon receiving a request from Fukuoka Prefecture, the students studied the social issue of domestic violence in depth and considered design proposals from their own perspectives. They received numerous proposals and feedback, and made repeated refinements before completing the design.

Sakuranori Yamashita (Nagano Nishi High School), a fourth-year student in the same department, who came up with the initial proposal for the completed design, said, "I learned a lot, such as the fact that not only women but also men are victims of domestic violence, and that the abuse continues because neither party is aware of it. That's why, in order to raise awareness among as many people as possible, I incorporated a ruler, which everyone can understand, into the design."

Funatsu Kairi (Shimonoseki Minami High School), also a fourth-year student, reflected, "Unlike concrete design production such as package design, it wasn't easy to express intangible feelings and messages. We brainstormed many ideas until we finished. We worked with a strong desire to use our visual design to raise awareness of and spread the word about this social problem that arises when people miss each other."

Tomoko Urata, Director of the Fukuoka Prefectural Department of Human Resource Development and Citizen Life, expressed her gratitude for the students' design, saying, "Because it was designed by university students, I think it will resonate with people of the same younger generation. Thank you for coming up with such an appealing design."

This design will also be used on consultation service information cards and other items as part of Fukuoka Prefecture's domestic violence prevention awareness campaign this year.
