On Sunday, October 19th, the 74th All Kyushu University Karate Championship was held, with the men's karate team winning both the team kumite and team kata (two titles), and the women's team coming in second in the team kumite.
The winner and runner-up will compete in the 69th All Japan University Karate Championships, which will be held at the Nippon Budokan on Sunday, November 16th.
Men's captain Masato Kubo (4th year, Department Department of Sport Science and Health Faculty of Human Sciences /Miyazaki Daiichi High School) reflected, "In this tournament, each player was able to think for themselves and work on their practice, which I think led to their condition on the day and the results. In previous tournaments, we hadn't been able to achieve results, but this victory made me feel that our daily training had finally paid off." Women's captain Monoka Shimomura (4th year, Department of Department of Childhood Education Faculty of Human Sciences /Kureko High School) spoke of her enthusiasm for the national tournament, saying, "We were just one step away from winning, and I think there were some gaps and weaknesses. In the month leading up to the national tournament, we will enjoy ourselves without compromising, and I want to surpass last year's result of reaching the top eight."
Thank you for your continued support!
