During the Hakata Gion Yamakasa Festival, which will be held from July 1st (Wed) to July 15th (Wed), 2026, students from each faculty will utilize their unique strengths to undertake a wide range of activities as part of their community service efforts, with the cooperation of Higashinagare Higashi-ryu district, in order to contribute to the continuation of the traditional festival and the revitalization of the local community.
Prior to the start of the initiative, four executives from Higashinagare visited the university and paid a courtesy call to President Kitajima.
President Kitajima said, "This has become a practical learning environment for students, including those in Faculty of Art and Design at our university. It has also become an opportunity for many people to learn about Fukuoka's traditional culture, so we would like to actively continue our collaboration this year as well." An executive from Higashinagare responded, "Student interpretation and bulletin board creation are becoming a characteristic of Higashinagare, and it is extremely helpful as the number of overseas tourists increases year by year. We look forward to your continued support this year."
As part of its 60th anniversary celebrations, our university launched the "Hakata Gion Yamakasa Project" in 2018 to support the local community through the Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival. Since then, through a wide range of activities that utilize the expertise of our students, we have contributed to the preservation of Hakata's proud traditional culture and the revitalization of the region.
