Students from Kyushu Sangyo University, Zokei Junior College of Art and Design (including some volunteer alumni) and Professor Huang Hee-jing designed panels to surround the construction site of Asanuma Gumi Co., Ltd. as part of an industry-academia collaboration project with the company.
The project began in December 2024 after the company asked them to use the power of design to communicate its concepts of "circulation," "environmental friendliness," and "recycling." The students listened to company representatives to gain a deeper understanding of the concept and then took on the challenge of creating their designs.
Although this was the first time for many of the students to paint large-format paintings measuring 1,800mm high and 900mm wide, they completed 20 unique works. The works were digitized, printed onto panels, and have been installed at the AEON Mall Chikushino renovation site since this month.
Project member Nakano Serina (Hakata Seisho High School) reflected on the project, saying, "I've always been interested in keywords like 'circulation' and 'nature,' and I decided to participate because I thought it would be a rare opportunity to paint a large-scale picture. In the process of interpreting the theme in my own way and painting, I gained a deeper understanding of what it means to 'paint for others.' It was a valuable experience that made me think about how I relate to society."
