On Saturday, September 2nd, a new recurrent education program, the "Next Generation Tourism Management Leader Development Program," was launched at our university's main building.
This program is aimed at management and mid-level employees in tourism-related businesses, as well as those involved in tourism town development, and others. It provides a multifaceted, specialized education from theory and practice to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for people who will utilize Kyushu's regional characteristics to engage in tourism management, with the goal of "fostering and nurturing human resources who can thrive in the local tourism industry."
On the first day of the course, Professor Masahiko Tashiro of Department of Tourism Faculty of Collaborative Regional Development, gave a lecture on "Tourism x Regional Revitalization," and on Sunday, September 3rd, Toru Tanaka, president of B-Wagon Co., Ltd., gave a lecture on the role and function of the Tourism Region Development Organization (DMO). During the lecture, students held group discussions on the "future of tourism associations" and exchanged opinions on revitalizing organizations. After the lecture, Vice President Tetsu Senso, who is the general manager of this project, explained the purpose and aims of the program to the students.
One of the students said, "I think about ways to increase the exchange population and related population in my work every day, but I want to use this course as an opportunity to think about it systematically and put it into practice. I'm also looking forward to the lectures on tourism marketing and tourism digital transformation." Another student said, "There are many people who are actually active in the tourism industry, so I'm looking forward to building new connections with other students."
Furthermore, in November of this year, regular students will be able to take an elective course in field studies in Saiki City, Oita Prefecture and Kurokawa Onsen in Aso County, Kumamoto Prefecture.
This program has been selected for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's "Recurrent Education Promotion Project to Cultivate Work-ready Talent in Growth Sectors in FY2022."
