On Sunday, March 8th, Professor Seong-Hyung Tian of the Department Department of Visual Design Faculty of Art and Design, and the student and faculty art group "Atode: Art & Design" (hereinafter "Atode") from the same department held a workshop at the "Friendship Plaza" event within the "Rotary International District 2700 2025-26 District Conference" at the atrium on the first floor of Acros Fukuoka (Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City).
This event is a collaborative project between Rotary International District 2700, the medical corporation Genki ga Waku's "Biblio Kids," a parent-child library of picture books and illustrated encyclopedias, and our university. Donations collected through participation in the workshop will be sent to Rotary International's polio eradication efforts (Endopolio).
The workshop that day featured booths where participants could create button badges based on artwork by people with disabilities ("Magokoro Art"), booths where students drew "unconventional portraits" of participants, and a booth where participants could enjoy "Fukuoka Karuta," a card game themed around Fukuoka Prefecture. Participants of all ages stopped by, and the venue was filled with smiles.
Participants commented, "Enjoying art with students led to donations, and it was a wonderful time," and "I've always wanted to do something beneficial for society, so I'm happy to have been able to help."
Miyuki Komatsu (Kurate High School), a third-year student Department of Visual Design Faculty of Art and Design and a member of "Atode," reflected, "It was a rare experience to participate in a charity event through art. I think that even people who are interested in charitable activities but don't know what to do were able to participate easily because enjoying the workshop also contributes to charity. I am very grateful to everyone who came."
