High school students participate in university learning through "high school-university collaboration classes"!

This year, we are once again running our "High School-University Collaboration Classes" initiative, in which high school students participate in lectures at our university with current students.

This year, 31 students from partner schools Kyushu Sangyo University Kyushu High School, Kyushu Sangyo University University Kyushu High School, and Higashi Fukuoka High School participated. They participated in university lectures and seminars in accordance with the "KSU quarter system" curriculum.

In the "Game Programming Exercise" lecture course taught by Professor Kazuaki Goshi of Faculty of Science and Engineering Department of Information Science, students designed and developed a shooting game using the programming language "Python" and the game creation library "pygame." With the support of university students, the high school students entered the program and actually moved the characters in the game. On the final day, each participant came up with an original movement and put it into practice, making it a lecture that allowed them to experience the fun of game programming.

In addition, in the lecture course "Practical Skills Development Exercise (ET Robocon)" taught by Professor Yoshihiro Yasutake of the same department, students designed autonomous driving software using robots used in competitions by university students. Students constructed motion systems for straight-line driving and obstacle avoidance. While operating the robots, they devised ways to minimize errors and ensure smooth driving. On the final day, a test run was conducted on the course used in the robot competition, and the lecture provided an insight into the depth of software design.

Students shared their thoughts such as, "I decided to take this course because I wanted to know what fields I could study at university," "I enjoyed the course because it was full of practical things that couldn't be covered in a classroom," and "While it was fun, I also found it difficult, but it gave me a clear goal to aim for when choosing my career path."

In addition to taking classes, students taking the "High School-University Collaborative Classes" can also use educational facilities such as the university library and Computing and Networking Center, and the credits they earn will be recognized as credits toward graduation requirements if they proceed to study at our university.
