Special Workshop Held to Commemorate UN Habitat Day for the 24th Art Competition

On Sunday, August 3rd, the 24th UN-Habitat Art Competition Special Workshop was held at the University's Global Plaza in collaboration with the UN-Habitat Fukuoka Headquarters to commemorate World Habitat Day.

The theme of this event was "Let's all participate in building better cities!" After receiving a presentation from a UN-Habitat staff member about cities around the world, the children participated in a workshop to think about city planning. The participants were three elementary school students, and five students from Faculty of Human Sciences and Faculty of Art and Design who volunteer at the university's art museum and local children's art classes, supported the activities as student staff.

In the workshop, children used photos of towns and homes from around the world as reference and freely drew the homes and towns they live in. Students supported the children in coming up with ideas and creating their own, sharing the joy of creation with them.

One of the participating students commented, "I was amazed at the children's imagination. The time we spent creating together was invaluable. I think it was great that they knew the town they live in well and thought about areas for improvement while drawing."
