Recruitment strategy proposals from a student perspective: A joint project report session between Faculty of Commerce and Mitsubishi Motors

On Saturday, December 7th, the final presentation of the "Employment Environment Research Project" between Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Kyushu Mitsubishi Motors Sales Co., Ltd., and our university's Faculty of Commerce was held at the Oriental Hotel Fukuoka Hakata Station (Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City).
This project is a joint study between companies and students on attractive companies and companies that students choose from the perspective of job hunting. This time, 41 students from the third year seminar of Professor Yasuhisa Taku and Associate Professor Yukiko Waki Faculty of Commerce gave presentations.

The students were divided into eight groups and spent about a year researching four themes: "What kind of recruitment activities will interest students?", "What is the most reliable medium or method for gathering information about companies?", "What is rewarding for job seekers?", and "What kind of company can appeal to the public even when its conditions are poor compared to its competitors?" They deepened their understanding of each company by attending joint information sessions, participating in internships, and listening to lectures about car dealerships around the country, and after making interim presentations, they began preparations for their final presentations.

The presentation introduced the results of a survey of university students and working adults on each topic. They suggested the use of SNS for recruitment activities, a job information website for students to gather information about companies, a theory- and method-based approach to improving internships to make them more rewarding, and a proposal for differentiation and appeal to companies by enriching recruitment information on their websites.

In response to each team's presentation, Kyoya Igarashi, General Manager of Domestic Sales at Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, and Hiroaki Muta, President and CEO of Kyushu Mitsubishi Motors Sales Co., Ltd., offered the following comments: "This project, which was the first of its kind and was proposed by young employees, was a success. The areas for improvement were clearly presented, and there were some that we wanted to start working on straight away. We also learned that there is a discrepancy between companies and university students in terms of how they think about employee benefits, and we felt that we needed to consider the quality of the information we communicate in our recruitment information. We would like to use this activity as a model case and expand it nationwide on a variety of topics in the future."

At the award ceremony after the presentations, two teams received special awards. Nakama Rinka (Wakaba High School), leader of the winning team, said, "We started visiting companies in April, and after receiving advice at the mid-term presentation in July, we made many revisions before arriving at this day. The team of five worked together to create materials, and we worked together to complement each other so that not a single person was missing. We were happy that our schedule proposals and specific examples for improvements, which we worked on through trial and error until the very end, were well received. I feel that this experience has allowed me to contribute to society, even if it is just a small part of it, as a university student."
