Interview with AI/Data Science Minor Graduate

Taking advantage of our diverse faculties in the arts and humanities, our university is implementing an interfaculty "AI and Data Science Minor" to promote AI and data science education.

This system allows students to study "AI" and "data science" systematically while learning about the differences in approaches between the humanities, science and engineering, and arts by taking courses offered by other faculties in addition to the courses offered by their own faculty. Students who meet the requirements for completion (required credits) will be awarded a minor completion certificate upon application.

This system has been certified by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as part of the "Mathematics, Data Science and AI Education Program Certification System (Literacy Level)."

We interviewed two students who received their certificates.

Faculty of Science and Engineering Department of Electrical Engineering
Haruki Morio (Dazaifu High School)

I learned about this system during the orientation after the entrance ceremony, and decided to take the course, thinking that it would be necessary knowledge in the modern age where "AI" and "ChatGPT" are evolving. At first,I was confused about taking courses from other faculties, but by consulting with the professors in charge and using the syllabus, I was able to successfully take courses from Faculty of Commerce and Faculty of Art and Design.
You can learn about how "AI" and "data science" work in a comprehensive manner, so if you are unsure, we recommend that you make a plan early on and give it a try.

Faculty of Art and Design Department of Social Design
Ms. Emi Ogaki (Takachiho High School)

I took this course because I wanted to expand my future options by learning a wide range of subjects related to AI and other subjects in addition to my major in the arts field. At first, I was worried about taking faculty subjects outside my field of expertise, but there were a wide variety of subjects from beginner to advanced levels, so I was able to learn from the basics. As I took the course, I found that even things I thought were in completely different fields were linked to my major, and it was very interesting to learn in that way.
I feel that by studying subjects from various fields across the board, I have been able to see things in a more diverse way. I would like to apply the mechanisms of statistics and survey methods I learned in my minor to my own research in the future.
