On Saturday, November 15th, the College Faculty of Science and Engineering and Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) held the 8th Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) program.
The theme was "Utilizing AI and Digital Technology." 84 students and faculty from our university participated, and students from both universities interacted online and presented a variety of projects utilizing AI.
The event began with a greeting from Prof. Eddie Buoy Palad of MSU-IIT, followed by presentations by faculty members from the School of Engineering and School of Computer Science at MSU-IIT, each of whom gave a presentation on their AI-related courses.
Afterwards, eight groups of MSU-IIT students, a total of 20 people, gave presentations, showcasing creative ideas such as "Sketch-A-Circuit (digitalization of hand-drawn circuits)," "Akira (detection of driving behavior using AI)," "SnakeAI (identification of snake species and antivenom search)," and "AeroStrum (virtual guitar using gesture recognition)."
During the question and answer session, faculty and students from both sides actively asked questions and made comments via online chat and verbally, leading to lively discussions about technical challenges and potential applications.
Many of the participating students commented that they learned and were inspired by the event, saying things like, "It was very helpful," "The presentations using cutting-edge technology were interesting," and "It helped me study not only programming but also English." Although some students said that it was difficult to understand the content of the presentations in English, many commented that they gained new knowledge through international exchange and enjoyed the interesting presentations.
This COIL provided an international learning environment on the theme of AI technology, and was a valuable opportunity to develop students' global perspectives and practical skills.
