On Friday, September 26th, students from the ABC Architecture Dojo, supervised by Professor Masao Yahagi of the Faculty of Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering, gave a presentation to President Kitajima and other university officials about their plans for renovating the first floor of Building 8.
This initiative is an attempt by students to reconstruct the first floor of our university's Building 8 into a comfortable space by incorporating natural light, creating an open feeling, and creating a sense of unity with the Memorial Hall.
The students were divided into two groups, A and B, and Group A gave a presentation using the models they had created based on the concept of "a sense of openness brought about by ceilings and light," while Group B gave a presentation based on the concept of "a place for one person, a place for everyone."
Group A boldly changed the impression of the space by using white as the main color scheme and raising the ceiling, while Group B made use of the brick walls to create a warm, shared living room for science and engineering students. Both groups were conscious of the connection to the outside of the building, while also providing flexibility so that the arrangement of desks and chairs could be changed depending on the purpose and time of day. Participants who listened to the presentations offered a variety of impressions and opinions, such as "Both groups' ideas were excellent. Perhaps you should consider giving this place a new name," and "It's good to try to refresh the image with a colorful space."
Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering develops human resources who, based on fundamental knowledge in engineering, have a broad perspective that pursues the nature of continuous spaces, from homes to the landscape of this country, and who have the practical skills to respond to diverse social needs.
