Daiki Goto (Jiyu Gakuen High School), a second-year student majoring in photography Faculty of Art and Design Department of Photography and Imaging Arts Arts, won the Excellence Award at the Fukuoka Wall Art Project 2025 for his photograph "Mixed Reconstruction." He was presented with a certificate of commendation by Mayor Takashima of Fukuoka City at the opening ceremony on Saturday, September 13th.
This project aims to invite artists to submit works from a wide range of fields, provide venues for them to exhibit in the city using temporary fencing and other structures, and provide opportunities for them to exhibit and sell their works, thereby providing further opportunities for artists to be active in the city and creating a lively atmosphere in the city through art.
"Mixed Reconstruction" is a work that captures the buildings and sky of Fukuoka using film and medium-format cameras. Five photographs are broken down into strips and reconstructed to create a new landscape that blends the past and present. The photographs, taken with both old and new technology, have different pixel counts and textures due to the differences between analog and digital, creating a sense of incongruity that arises from this, and the new landscape that has been reconstructed, allowing viewers to observe it from a variety of perspectives.
Reflecting on his award, Goto said, "I am very honored that my work, which I created through trial and error, has been recognized. I would like to continue my experimental work and pursue even more the worldview I want to create. I hope to continue holding solo exhibitions and creating works related to fashion and music."
