
Junpei Narahara (Asakura High School), a third-year student in the Department of Department of Fine Arts and Media Sciences Faculty of Art and Design won the Kahoku Memorial Award for his work "Solitary Beauty" at the 49th Kyushu Youth Art Exhibition, sponsored by the Omuta City Cultural Promotion Foundation.
This open call exhibition is held every year with the aim of discovering and nurturing the outstanding talents of new and young artists.
The winning work, "Solitary Beauty," is an abstract oil painting measuring 1620mm in length and width, based on Narahara himself. Using optical illusion stripes, he expresses the duality of his childhood self, who prefers solitude, and his self, who enjoys spending time with friends.
Narahara said, "Everyone has their own standards of beauty, and both positive and negative things can be beautiful. I feel that people who suffer from loneliness and people who prefer to be alone are all beautiful, so I titled this work Solitary Beauty. I would be happy if this work inspires people to take on new challenges. Personally, I feel more confident now that the judges have praised my new and challenging expression. I will continue to create, never forgetting to take on new challenges."
