Participating in the Tanabata Festival at Shigaumi Shrine

Third-year students from the seminars of Professor Suematsu Tsuyoshi Department of Regional Development Faculty of Collaborative Regional Development and Professor Nagamatsu Takefumi of Department of Tourism, participated in the Tanabata Festival held at Shikanoumi Shrine (Shikanoshima, Higashi Ward, Fukuoka City) on Wednesday, August 6th and Thursday, August 7th.

The students began preparations the day before the event, working with local residents to set up bamboo lanterns and Tanabata decorations. Fifty of the bamboo lanterns were made by students of our university, and they decorated the approach and grounds with a fantastical glow.

On the day of the festival, they were also in charge of guiding visitors and assisting with event management. Local residents even commented on the beautiful lit bamboo lanterns, giving the students a valuable experience that deepened their practical learning while coming into contact with local culture.

Uchimura Kaname (a graduate of Genyo High School), a third-year student in the Suematsu seminar, said, "We made six bamboo lanterns in advance. It was a valuable experience to be able to work together with the chief priest and other people involved in the festival."

Going forward, our university will continue to work in collaboration with the local community to support the growth of students and the development of the local community.
