Faculty of Collaborative Regional Development x Kyushu Sangyo University, Zokei Junior College of Art and Design Participate in Chikugo City Hassaku Festival

On Saturday, August 2nd, the Faculty of Collaborative Regional Development and Kyushu Sangyo University, Zokei Junior College of Art and Design jointly set up a stall at the Hassaku Festival held at Suwa Shrine (Yamanoi, Chikugo City, Fukuoka Prefecture) near JR Hainuzuka Station.

Since 2021, students from the Faculty of Department of Tourism have been taking part in cleanup activities in the area around Hainuzuka Station in Chikugo City and creating disaster prevention maps to revitalize the area. In 2023, the department began organizing a festival in response to a request from the local government to set up a shop that children could enjoy. Starting in 2024, Kyushu Sangyo University, Zokei Junior College of Art and Design will also be setting up a stall at the Hassaku Festival at Suwa Shrine.

This year, students once again planned and prepared the event, setting up four stalls: "Shooting Gallery," "Yo-Yo Scooping," "Ball Scooping," and "Ball Toss." The posters for the "Hassaku Festival" and the store signs were designed by students from Kyushu Sangyo University, Zokei Junior College of Art and Design. They were also able to interact with local residents, administrative districts, and local government officials, which appears to have been a valuable experience.

Tsubasa Kondo (Musashidai High School), a third-year student in Department of Tourism who planned and operated the shooting gallery, said, "The children enjoyed themselves, and naturally, I felt happy too. On the other hand, it was difficult to prepare prizes that everyone would enjoy and to set the difficulty level, such as distance." In addition, Saki Oshiro (Chinen High School), a first-year student in Department of Art and Design who planned and operated the ball throwing event, looked back on the activities, saying, "It was very difficult to come up with a show from scratch while checking the age groups of the customers, but I was filled with a sense of accomplishment when I saw the smiles on the children's faces!"
