On Thursday, November 13th, Professor Masahiko Tashiro ofDepartment of Tourism Faculty of Collaborative Regional Development and 12 students from Seminar I (3rd year) held an online meeting for Matsuura City Hall (Nagasaki Prefecture) to report on the results of a visitor survey conducted in October at the roadside station "Matsuura Umi no Furusatokan."
This project, which began in fiscal year 2025, is being carried out with the cooperation of the Matsuura City Cultural Tourism Division and the Matsuura Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with the aim of understanding the actual situation of visitors to the facility and verifying the effect of attracting visitors by extending the Nishi-Kyushu Expressway. On Saturday, October 4th, 12 seminar students conducted a face-to-face survey of visitors on-site, and received 120 valid responses.
At the briefing session, the respondents' attributes and travel purposes, their evaluations of roadside stations and Matsuura City, and their opinions on the extension of the Nishi-Kyushu Expressway were shared along with the results of the analysis. A Matsuura City official commented, "We share the same understanding of the issues, and we would like to work together with Hirado City to increase the number of visitors from Fukuoka in their teens and twenties."
This project is scheduled to continue into 2026, with plans to conduct comparative surveys before and after the extension of the Nishi-Kyushu Expressway. We will continue to accumulate practical data aimed at solving regional tourism issues.
