Firefly larvae will be released into the campus garden waterway
April 3, 2025 (Thursday) 14:00-14:30 (*Meet at 13:50)
On Thursday, April 3rd, we will be releasing firefly larvae together with local residents in the garden waterway that runs through the center of our campus.
In 2017, landscape gardener Kazuyuki Ishihara, known as the "Green Magician," released approximately 300 firefly larvae into the garden waterway on campus, which he designed in cooperation with local residents with the aim of spreading the circle of flowers and greenery from the university.
On the day, we will be offering an opportunity for people to feel the richness of nature through these "tiny lives," and we plan to hold a firefly viewing event called "HOTARU NIGHT" in late May, when the fireflies emerge.
Participation in the release event requires prior application.
*HOTARU NIGHT is a popular event among local residents, with 1,200 people attending over two days last year.
