On Monday, July 13, graduate students taking the common foundational course for master's students, "Special Lecture on Intercultural Management" (taught by Professor Koichi Nagata Faculty of Commerce), visited Nisshin Sangyo Co., Ltd. (Fukuoka City), a general trading company for industrial materials, and conducted interview research on the theme of "Exploring ways of working in a multicultural environment."
On the day of the event, a total of seven graduate students and research students from Japan, Vietnam, and China participated. Based on the results of a survey conducted in June of this year at Cow Television Co., Ltd. (Fukuoka City), they deepened their understanding of the realities and challenges of collaboration in a multicultural environment through interviews with the company's President and CEO, Takao Ueki, as well as foreign and Japanese employees. This direct contact with on-the-ground voices provided a valuable opportunity for them to proactively consider the meaning of working in a global society and the nature of multicultural coexistence.
One participating graduate student commented, "Based on our previous research, I think we were able to successfully extract the information we wanted," while an international student said, "Although I've only recently arrived in Japan, I've become able to understand the Japanese spoken in interviews, and people have come to understand the intent behind my questions." It seems to have been an experience that allowed the students to feel a sense of personal growth.
