On Sunday, February 22nd, a total of 31 students and faculty members from our university participated in the "Canal and Road Cleanup Operation" held in Yanagawa City.
This initiative is a collaboration between Yanagawa City and the "Yanagawa Road Guardian Network," in which a mass cleanup of the castle moat and surrounding roads will be conducted in conjunction with local residents and various organizations, coinciding with the period when the water level in the castle moat drops.
On that day, at the request of the city hall, we carried out cleaning activities around the canal used for river rafting, one of the city's tourist attractions. In the drained canal, we cut algae and repaired the cut algae, and on the walking paths in the river rafting area, we collected litter and fallen leaves.
The participating students worked diligently, realizing that Yanagawa City's historic landscapes and valuable tourist resources are preserved through the continuous maintenance efforts of local residents. This direct involvement in beautifying the local environment provided a valuable opportunity to foster a sense of community responsibility.
Our university will continue to foster students' social skills and initiative through volunteer activities in collaboration with the local community, and strive to make further contributions to the local community.
