On Sunday, October 12th, the Goshinkosai Festival, which has been designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Fukuoka Prefecture, was held at Shikanoumi Shrine (Shikanoshima, Higashi Ward, Fukuoka City), and 30 students from our university's baseball team participated as drummers.
The Goshinko Festival is a grand festival held every two years in October, and is an important traditional event for the local people. However, in recent years, the running of the festival has become an issue due to the declining birthrate and aging population, as well as a decrease in the number of people to carry out the festival. In this situation, our university's baseball team participated as drummers, just as they did last time, as part of their community contribution activities.
The students carried three drums from the main hall of Shigaumi Shrine to the secondary shrine, and after performing the arts, they carried the drums back to the main hall.
The participating students said, "I'm glad we were able to contribute to the Shigaumi Shrine festival," and it was a valuable opportunity to deepen their ties with the local community.
Our university will continue to actively support students' community contribution activities.
