Rin Toyosato (Yomitan High School), a fourth-year student in the Department Department of Sport Science and Health Faculty of Human Sciences, competed as a member of the Japanese women's basketball team at the 2025 Tokyo Deaflympics, winning a gold medal. She then paid a courtesy visit to President Kitajima on Friday, December 5th.
Toyosato expressed his gratitude, saying, "We were able to win the gold medal thanks to everyone's support," and handed the world's best gold medal to President Kitajima. President Kitajima praised the team's achievement, saying, "Congratulations on winning the gold medal! A gold medal really does carry a special weight." Looking back on the tournament, Toyosato shared his joy at winning the fierce competition, saying, "In the final tournament, we faced a strong team, Australia, whom we had played against at last year's Asian Games. This time, we added two new members, including myself, and we aimed to show a different kind of strength for the Japanese team than we did last time. We continued to face close matches against strong teams, but by working together as a team, we were able to achieve our goal of becoming world champions."
In the future, Toyosato's achievements will also be introduced in The Heritage Corner at our university's Okusu Arena 2020.
