On Saturday, November 29th, 48 members of the semi-hardball baseball club held a baseball exchange event (baseball class) at our university's baseball field for 33 members of the Fukuoka Municipal Kashii Third Junior High School baseball club.
This time, the event was carried out at the request of Kashii Third Junior High School, with students from the semi-hardball baseball club acting as instructors to help improve baseball skills and promote community collaboration through baseball.
On the day, the practice focused on four areas: warm-up, catch ball, knocking, and batting. During knocking and batting, the university students first demonstrated their plays. Afterwards, they gave technical advice to the junior high school students while working on the practice format. The students gave practical and thorough instruction on the movements of each position, how to approach the ball, stance at bat, swing trajectory, and more.
After the practice, there was a "Question Time" during which the participating junior high school students actively asked questions about practice methods, how to catch the ball, how to hit the ball, etc., and a lively exchange of opinions took place in a relaxed atmosphere.
Shin Ibuki, a second-year student in the Department Department of Sport Science and Health Faculty of Human Sciences, and a member of the club, Jyoto High School, Fukuoka Institute of Technology, commented, "By putting into words the practice and play I normally do, and giving advice to the junior high school students about their form and how to approach practice, I was able to reaffirm the things I need to be aware of and the importance of my efforts. I aim to become a health and physical education teacher at a junior high school in the future, and I was able to gain very useful experience and learn from this activity."
Our university will continue to work to promote local collaboration and contributions through sports.
