On October 10th (Saturday) and 11th (Sunday), students from Kyushu Sangyo University, Zokei Junior College of Art and Design worked with students from the junior high school and local residents to paint the 201 steps of the staircase in front of Sue Higashi Junior High School in Sue Town as part of the "Staircase of Hope Project."
This project was realized thanks to the wishes of the school's student council members who wanted to "transform the stairs in front of the school grounds into a wonderful place for the local community to enjoy."
The school's art club, along with other students, created four original drawings based on the theme of "The Four Seasons, Nature, and School Events." Subsequently, under the guidance of Professor Huang Hee-Jung of the university's Kyushu Sangyo University, Zokei Junior College of Art and Design and Design, students refined the original drawings to make them more appealing on the staircase. On the day of the event, after the Sue Town Fathers' Association helped prepare the base for the drawing surface, the students painted the artwork together with volunteer junior high school students over two days, creating a new connection on the 201 steps of the staircase.
Toshiki Miyazono (Fukuoka Korinkan High School), a first-year student who was in charge of the design area for the original artwork "Autumn," said, "It was a valuable experience because we don't usually have many opportunities to draw on such a huge wall or staircase. The original artwork created from the perspective of the junior high school students was also very unique, and we enjoyed creating it together."
The project in Sue Town is part of an initiative based on a comprehensive cooperation agreement between the town and our university (signed in December 2023). The faculty is contributing to creating a brighter town by painting wall art in various locations throughout the town.
