Robot workshop students take on the Catch Robot Contest

On August 29th (Saturday), our university participated in the "Catch Robo Kyushu Regional Tournament," organized by the Catch Robo Battle Contest Executive Committee and held at Aeon Mall Chikushino (Fukuoka Prefecture). Project-based education: "Robot Workshop" Students from the organization will participate. Faculty of Science and Engineering Department of Mechanical Engineering Third-year student Tenyu Nakamura came in second place, and the team "Kirakira☆Chipstar☆", composed of three first-year students from the same department, made it to the top four.

This competition, held in preparation for the 16th Catch Robo Battle Contest finals on September 13th (Sunday), is themed "Can machines surpass human hands?" and is a competition where students compete using robots they have designed and built to demonstrate the handling techniques necessary for industrial machinery. This year, the competition will be based on Yamazaki Biscuit Co., Ltd.'s snack food "Chip Star," with the challenges being "picking cylindrical workpieces" and "filling deep boxes."

Team member Yuto Kira (Beppu Tsurumigaoka High School), a first-year student in the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, said, "Through building the robot, I learned the importance of how even a slight 'deviation' in metal processing can affect the entire structure, and the importance of devising ways to prevent wiring from getting tangled. We plan to add a new mechanism for the main competition, so we want to carefully work on everything from processing to assembly and wiring, and challenge the competition with a robot that operates stably."

These results demonstrate the fruits of the manufacturing activities that the students have proactively undertaken. We look forward to their continued success in the future.
