Demonstration of "pre-detection of heatstroke risk" at a construction site in Fukuoka City

The city's road and sewage department stated that working underground makes workers susceptible to the effects of not only temperature and humidity but also carbon dioxide concentration, and that conventional heatstroke prevention measures rely too much on workers reporting their own physical condition. Therefore, "pre-detection and early detection of heatstroke risk" is a challenge.

The research lab aims to detect risks before symptoms appear through data-driven decision-making, and is conducting a demonstration experiment at a newly constructed rainwater pipe construction site to achieve "zero accidents caused by heatstroke." By utilizing IoT technology with sensors that measure temperature, humidity, CO2 concentration, and machine surface temperature, they are building a system to understand the physical condition of workers and the work environment in real time, and are verifying the creation of a system that allows site managers to objectively understand the work environment by sharing the acquired data on the cloud.

Prior to the start of the project, we visited the site provided as a demonstration field to conduct interviews with workers about their concerns regarding heatstroke prevention and to carry out preliminary site surveys.

The students are involved in data analysis and system operation, providing them with practical learning opportunities directly related to solving real-world problems. Furthermore, the results of this initiative will be reported in graduation theses and presented at academic conferences.
