Promoting SDGs in Okinawa! Unilever x Drug Eleven x Kyushu Sangyo University

Third and fourth-year students in Associate Professor Keimi Kata's seminar Faculty of Commerce Department of Business and Marketing of Commerce, are working with Drug Eleven Co., Ltd. (Onojo City, Fukuoka Prefecture) and Unilever Japan (Meguro Ward, Tokyo) on an SDGs promotion project that aims to avoid wasting resources.

Now in its fourth year, this initiative, in collaboration with two companies promoting refillable products with the aim of reducing plastic waste, encourages students to raise their awareness of "responsible use" from a consumer's perspective and consider ways to promote the widespread adoption of these products.

This time, we participated in the "Let's Protect Japan's Seas Project!" held in Okinawa Prefecture. On Saturday, April 4th, 13 seminar students, with the cooperation of the company, conducted a clean-up event titled "The Power of Cleanliness for the Future Campaign" on Kokusai Street in Naha City. They carried out cleaning activities in cooperation with the Nippon Foundation Ocean and Japan Project* and local residents.

Furthermore, the event included a quiz campaign about refillable shampoo and other products designed by the students. This helped to convey the importance of resource recycling to the many families who participated in the giveaway.

In this initiative, we will continue to develop various activities centered on the theme of "reducing environmental impact and achieving business growth," primarily in the Kyushu area.

*This project, spearheaded by the Nippon Foundation, the Headquarters for Ocean Policy, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, aims to stimulate interest and curiosity in the ocean, primarily among children, and to expand the circle of action toward solving ocean-related problems.
