Our university, which has concluded an industry-academia collaboration agreement with Nishinippon City Bank, has been offering a joint course for the Faculty Faculty of Economics and the Faculty Faculty of Commerce, "Financial Institutions" (taught by Professor Shinya Shimoda and Lecturer Atsushi Nemoto), as a sponsored course * since 2017, with executives and employees of Nishinippon Financial Holdings group companies serving as lecturers.
This lecture aims to deepen students' understanding of the diversifying operations of regional banks and the environment surrounding the financial industry, as well as to provide them with practical financial knowledge, by having them hear directly from practitioners active on the front lines of the financial industry. 58 students are enrolled this year.
The first lecture was held on Wednesday, April 8th, with Mr. Hidehiko Matsushita, Deputy General Manager of the Regional Development Division at Nishinippon City Bank, giving the opening address. He introduced an overview of the market environment in Kyushu and Fukuoka, and also touched upon the redevelopment project in the city center of Fukuoka as an example of the Regional Development Division's initiatives, sending a message to the students saying, "I hope that through these lectures you will learn about the diverse roles that regional banks play."
Next, Misaki Shimokawa from the bank's Public Relations and Culture Department, who served as the first lecturer, gave a lecture on the theme of "Bank Brand Strategy." She introduced various community contribution activities carried out by the bank based on its belief that "there can be no development of West Japan City Bank without the development of the region," and gave a concrete explanation of the relationship between the region and the financial institution.
Upcoming lectures will feature specialized instruction from experts in various fields, including digital strategy, lending operations, and solutions. In the final lecture, students will deepen their understanding of this year's theme, "The Role of Regional Banks in a Rising Interest Rate Era," and present their findings in groups.
* Endowed courses: Courses operated through donations from corporations, foundations, and individuals for the purpose of promoting education and research.
