A joint research project titled "The History and Culture of Kashii Shrine / Regional Culture - Passing it on to the Next Generation," spearheaded by Faculty of Collaborative Regional Development, Faculty of International Studies of Culture, and Center for Fundamental Education at our university, has officially begun. The project aims to academically study the history and culture of Kashii Shrine (Higashi-ku, Fukuoka City) and return the results to the local community.
This research project builds upon the exchanges and research activities that the research members have been conducting with Kashii Shrine. A joint research group was established at the suggestion of Kashii Shrine. Researchers from both within and outside the university are collaborating, and with the cooperation of external researchers involved in cultural properties in Fukuoka City, an interdisciplinary research system is being built.
At the first research meeting held on April 25th (Saturday), the research members introduced their research topics and we viewed valuable materials related to Kashii Shrine held in the university library.
At the second research meeting held on Saturday, June 27th, research presentations were given. Professor Yasunari Ishikawa of Department of Tourism of Faculty of Collaborative Regional Development presented on "The Activities of the Tsuienkai in the Modern History of Kashii Shrine," Professor Takashi Sunaga of the Department of Department of Japanese Culture of Faculty of International Studies of Culture Culture, presented on "Changes in the Origin Story of Kashii Shrine," and Professor Tsuyoshi Suematsu of the Faculty of Collaborative Regional Development Department of Regional Development presented on "The Reality Surrounding the Offering of Gifts during the Enkyo Era."
The research group will continue to hold meetings regularly, and on November 28th (Sat) and 29th (Sun), we are planning a symposium to be held at our university, as well as a treasure exhibition at Kashii Shrine.
The results of this research will ultimately be published as an academic paper collection with the same title as the research topic.
The symposium and exhibition in November are open to the local community. Details will be announced on the university website and other channels as soon as they are finalized.
