Students Kyushu Sangyo University, Zokei Junior College of Art and Design Design designed the school emblem for a special needs school!

The Hiroki Inoue LaboratoryKyushu Sangyo University, Zokei Junior College of Art and Design was commissioned by the Fukuoka Prefectural Board of Education to design the school emblems for "Fukuoka Prefectural Munakata Special Needs School (Munakata City, hereinafter referred to as Munakata Special Needs School)" and "Fukuoka Prefectural Fukuoka Tsukushi Special Needs School (Fukuoka City, hereinafter referred to as Fukuoka Tsukushi Special Needs School)," both scheduled to open in April 2026.

The school emblem of Munakata Special Needs School is based on three motifs that symbolize the rich natural environment of Munakata: a rainbow, mountains, and the sea. The rainbow represents the diverse individuality of the children, the mountains represent the initial "M" of the place name, and the sea represents a tolerant heart that embraces everything.

The school emblem of Fukuoka Tsukushi Special Needs School depicts a single horsetail (tsukushi) from a powerful angle, as if looking up from below, expressing a strong will for "independence." The horsetail stems spreading in the background symbolize "cooperation" and "interaction," which are built on mutual support and connection.

To celebrate the opening of each school, certificates of appreciation were presented by both schools to the students who designed the school and to Professor Inoue at the "Opening Ceremony" held in April.

Hina Murano (graduate of Department of Art and Design in March 2026 / Kasumigaoka High School), who designed the school emblem for Munakata Special Needs School, said, "In order to express the school's educational philosophy in the emblem, I made sure that the mountain shape could also be seen as a bird soaring in the sky depending on how you look at it. I would be happy if the children could learn freely with the wishes embodied in this school emblem."

Yuna Tokoro (graduate Department of Art and Design in March 2026 / Kokura Higashi High School), who designed the school emblem for Fukuoka Tsukushi Special Needs School, said, "I focused on how to combine the theme of 'independence,' which was presented by the school, with the school name 'Tsukushi.' I was deeply moved to see my design displayed on the school flag and other items at the ceremony. I hope that the students will be able to learn in their own way with this school emblem."
