In Professor Junichiro Sakai 's seminar in the Department Department of Japanese Culture Faculty of International Studies of Culture, we are implementing a project-based education program called "REAL JAPAN PROJECT." This project aims to deepen mutual understanding by comparing the languages and cultures of Japan and other countries from a new perspective through diverse exchange activities both domestically and internationally.
This year, from May 24th (Sunday) to May 29th (Friday), six students visited Dalian, China, for a cross-cultural fieldwork program themed "Dalian 5-Genre Cross-Cultural Fieldwork (Business x Diplomacy x Exchange x History x Culture)." While there, they conducted company visits, interacted with overseas diplomatic missions and educational institutions, and researched war sites and cultural sites, deepening their understanding of the international community and learning about Japanese and Chinese culture and history from multiple perspectives. Through these practical experiences, the program aimed to cultivate comprehensive skills that will contribute to their future career development.
Yua Iwakuma (Kashii High School), a second-year student in the same department, said, "I participated because I wanted to challenge myself with studying abroad. Interacting with local students was particularly memorable. While I felt the differences in language and culture, I was inspired by their attitude towards learning Japanese and their willingness to speak to me. I felt a connection that transcends national borders, and by looking at Japan from China, I gained new insights and my perspective on the future has broadened considerably."
Liu Tingting, also a second-year student from China, reflected on the training, saying, "As someone currently studying in Japan, I wanted to learn more about the development of Chinese society and businesses, so I participated in this program. While there, I had the opportunity to visit companies, universities, and research institutions and to speak directly with researchers and business leaders. At Dalian University of Technology in particular, I received an explanation about AI applications in the medical field, and I truly felt the progress of technology and its immense potential. Through experiences that I couldn't get in the classroom, I felt closer to the international community and it gave me an opportunity to think about my own career."
