On Thursday, June 11, Professor Masahiko Tashiro of the Department Department of Tourism Faculty of Collaborative Regional Development and 13 students from his seminar I (3rd year) held an online meeting with Matsuura City Hall (Nagasaki Prefecture) to report on the results of a visitor survey conducted on Saturday, May 9 at the roadside station "Matsuura Umi no Furusato-kan".
This project, which began in fiscal year 2025, is being undertaken with the cooperation of the Matsuura City Culture and Tourism Division and the Matsuura Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with the aim of understanding the actual situation of visitors to the facility, promoting tourism in the city, and verifying the effect of attracting visitors due to the extension of the West Kyushu Expressway. Following last year, 12 seminar students conducted face-to-face surveys of visitors on-site again this year. The number of valid responses reached 142, exceeding last year's 120.
At the briefing, the results of an analysis were presented regarding the evaluation of the roadside station, Matsuura City, and Matsuura's specialty, fried horse mackerel, as well as the effects of the extension of the West Kyushu Expressway and cooperation between Matsuura City and Hirado City. A Matsuura City official said, "Until now, we haven't had the opportunity to conduct surveys with each individual, so this was very helpful. In the future, we would like to reflect this report in promoting the attractions of Matsuura City and make it a place that many people will visit."
Students commented, "It was a very valuable opportunity to speak directly with government officials. We were able to hear real opinions from people on the ground, and we are looking forward to seeing how this report will be reflected in tourism policies."
