On Saturday, July 11th, 25 students and faculty members, mainly from the university's semi-hardball baseball club, participated in agricultural support volunteer activities on Shikanoshima Island (Higashi Ward, Fukuoka City). The participants worked on "sediment removal," which involves removing sediment that accumulates in agricultural waterways during the rainy season and other periods.

Agricultural waterways are an essential infrastructure not only for supplying water to farmland but also for draining rainwater and maintaining the environment surrounding farmland. Despite the intense heat on the day, the students received guidance on work methods from local residents and, with full consideration for safety, carefully removed the accumulated sediment from the waterways using shovels and wheelbarrows.

In addition, during breaks from their work, the students listened to local residents talk about the current state of agriculture on Shikanoshima Island and the importance of maintaining the waterways. For the students, it was a valuable opportunity to learn that agricultural products are produced through the efforts of many people and the mutual support of the community.

Our semi-hardball baseball club is actively involved not only in competitive sports but also in community service activities. We will continue our social contribution activities while cherishing our connections with the community.
